Watertown Mayer Schools
Watertown-Mayer provides a safe environment for your child. WM is proud of its quality school system, which provides excellent academic and extracurricular programs for students in Mayer, Minnetrista, Watertown, and neighboring areas.
The district is organized into four schools: a primary school for preschool and kindergarten students, an elementary school for students in grades one through five, a middle school for students in grades six through eight, and a high school with students in grades nine through twelve.
The primary school is focused on providing a safe, nurturing environment for preschool and kindergarten students. There are various class options available for parents of preschool students. Kindergarten students may participate in either an all-day, everyday fee-based program or a three day per week program.
A new state of the art elementary school, which has been acknowledged state-wide for quailty, opened its doors in 2007 for grades one through five. Special efforts are made to maintain effective class sizes for elementary students. All students participate in art, physical education, music, and computer literacy programs, which are taught by licensed specialists.
The middle school emphasizes the development of the whole child and includes a wide variety of exploratory experiences that help children develop more mature interests, academic capabilities, and athletic skills.
The middle school curriculum features special education programs, computer skill development opportunities, integrated curricular units, advisory experiences, exploratory days, and numerous support opportunities.
Co-curricular activities include: band, choir, drama, athletics, student government and community service projects. A team-teaching model, which allows for coordinated planning and intervention, supports these successful programs.
The high school offers a comprehensive curriculum in a four-period block schedule.
The curriculum includes College in the Schools with an opportunity to earn up to 60 college credits, a mentor program, vocational programs, advanced math and science, and four years of Spanish and German.
The high school also offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities, including drama, speech, music, athletics, FFA, Business Professionals of America, Knowledge Bowl, Mock Trial, and others.
Athletic programs are supported by quality facilities such as an all-weather lighted track and field complex, lighted football and softball fields, a remodeled indoor swimming pool and brand new gyms and gymnastics areas.
Community Education programs include Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), adult and youth enrichment classes, Kids’ Company school-age childcare, a Club Middle after-school program that provides homework help and recreational opportunities, a Red Cross swimming program, and other recreational opportunities.
