Mayer offers a variety of events
Mayer organizations offer a great variety of events and a good time every year.

In both spring and fall, for example, you can enjoy the Mayer Fire Department’s all-you-can-eat fish fry at the Mayer Community Center. The fall fish fry is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007. The spring fish fry is set for Sunday, April 6, 2008.

Mayer starts the year by opening Old School House Parks and West Ridge Park. West Ridge Park has new playground equipment that’s only three years old.

Baseball will keep you entertained in the summer. The Mayer Baseball Club not only plays games in which to participate or watch, but also hosts an annual Beef Sunday during one of the games in July. The dinner fills you up, and great prizes are donated by local businesses.

Community recreation offers t-ball in the summer and soccer in the fall for area youth. Contact the city hall to enroll.

Each summer, Lutheran High School of Mayer hosts a rummage sale and auction, tentatively scheduled for June 23-26, 2008. The annual event draws people from neighboring communities, and includes a silent auction, flea market, quilt auction and bake sale. The sale is in its 39th year. Proceeds from the annual event go towards updating the school.

Lutheran High School also sponsors a golf tournament, Saturday, Sept. 8, at Shadowbrooke Golf Course of Lester Prairie. The 11th annual tournament benefits technology advancements at the school, and is open to foursome teams. Anyone interested in participating may contact the school.

“Seussical, the Musical” will be this year’s high school musical Nov. 16-18.

When summer ends, Zion Lutheran School begins. The school hosts an annual fall festival, Friday, Oct. 26, featuring food, fun and children’s games.

At Christmas, the Lutheran elementary school presents a special Christmas program to the community in the Mayer Lutheran High School Fine Arts auditorium, Wednesday, Dec. 19.

The high school also presents a Christmas program. It features a concert choir and wind ensemble, Monday, Dec. 17.
